What is embalming and why is it necessary?

Embalming is the temporary preservation and sanitation of the deceased by a
professional licensee.  This process preserves the body through the viewing
and funeral period. In most instances it is not required by law, but it is of
practical necessity when the body is present at the service.  When embalming
is not chosen, refrigeration facilities are available
.

Can a funeral be held if cremation is selected?

Many believe they must choose between a funeral or cremation.  This belief is
simply not true.  Cremation is merely an alternative to a traditional ground burial. With a variety of cremation caskets available at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, you may choose services with a viewing for family and friends and a church or chapel service. The cremation would follow these services and then the ashes may be buried, entombed, or scattered as the family may choose.

What about a cremation society?

Many people think that funeral homes do not offer cremation, that they should use a cremation society or specialist.  At James A. Dyal, we have our own crematory and offer a full line of cremation services from complete funerals, cremation caskets, a variety of urns, and memorial products.  We also offer minimum cremation services for those choosing that option.  We feel that by offering a complete array of services, consumers can make better choices and not feel limited by companies that offer a very minimal type of disposal service.

What are the benefits of a funeral?

It has been said that funerals are for the living but about the person who died. Funerals are invaluable in providing closure as a necessary part of mourning.  The funeral draws the wider community together into a supportive atmosphere of shared grief, allowing everyone to express their feelings in an appropriate setting.  Through the ages, mankind has always relied on traditions and rituals as a means of coping with life's difficult situations.  Funerals provide an appropriate setting for honoring the memory of your loved one, celebrating their life, and allowing family and friends to be a part of that ritual.
