Barbara C. Barenborg

Barbara (Jane) Currie Barenborg was born in Wallace, NC on September 4, 1936 and entered heaven on November 11, 2018. How do you begin to write about the life of the greatest most loving mother there ever was. Words cannot begin to express just how important a force she was in the lives of her family and especially her three children Mary Beth, Billy and Kristen. There was nothing our mother could not do. She used her endless creative talents to run a successful craft and floral business, she had strong drive and created successful real estate ventures during her life. She was a great friend to many and loved to laugh … but her greatest accomplishment in life was the boundless love and devotion that she had for her children. It is hard to imagine a mother that could have loved her family more than she did. She was a teacher, a comforter, a fierce protector, a source of wonderment and a model of unconditional love … the most important woman there will ever be in the lives of her kids. For that we are eternally grateful and blessed. In addition to her children, she is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years William F Barenborg, her five grandchildren who she adored, Christian, Will, Mira, Ian & Cole and her cousins, Anne Lackey Chandler and Bill Currie who was like a brother to her. She was preceded by her mother and father, James Henry and Mary Colwell Currie, two aunts who loved us all dearly, Margaret (Sit) & Rebecca (Beck) Colwell and her Cousin Kent Currie who she loved so much … and her beloved dog Katie. Mom’s greatest gift was her immense and unconditional love … it was a gift she received from her mother Mary, Sit and Beck and it lives on today in the mothers that her daughters have become … without doubt it will be passed along to their children as well … a legacy like no other. We will miss you mom … more than words could ever convey. Our hearts are forever broken. We thank God everyday that he chose you to be our mother and pray you are at peace. You will live everyday in our hearts until we meet again. A farewell service will be held on Saturday November 17 at 1pm in the chapel at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Summerville SC.
