Becky Marie Ruppe

Becky Marie Ruppe, age 73, of Elloree, South Carolina, passed away on June 15, 2026. Born on March 12, 1953, in Marion, Ohio, Becky lived a life marked by hard work, perseverance, humor, and unwavering love for her family. Though she enjoyed a varied career, including technology jobs, medical transcription, and working for herself several years, her final occupation was being a devoted wife and pouring her energy into the caretaking of her husband. Becky was the beloved wife of Raymond Ruppe and the devoted mother to Candy Ruppe, Christie (Stephen) Scanlon, and Curtis (Kathleen) Ruppe. She was the proud grandmother to Christian Hartselle, Isabella Cagle, Nacketa Serra, Makhiya Scanlon, Shelia Han, Joshua Scanlon, Matthew Ruppe, Charlotte Ruppe, and Josie Scanlon, as well as the great grandmother to Lilah Cagle, Walter Serra, and one more granddaughter on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Luella Blankenship, and her brother Jack Blankenship. She is survived by her sister Sue Gordan and brother Charles "Junior" Blankenship. A woman of Catholic faith, her strongest values centered on a strong sense of justice and a deep empathy for those who couldn’t take care of themselves. Becky approached life with determination and resilience, consistently noticing the small hilarities in life. She was wild at heart, beautifully quirky, could be stubborn at inopportune times, and was far smarter “than the average bear”. She loved to laugh, especially at herself, and her family never doubted for a moment they were loved. Becky found peace reading and watching shows with her husband at home. She found pride in knitting personalized blankets for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. An avid collector of gadgets, they could be found strewn about her home. She had a passion for music and it showed in her children’s and grandchildren’s musical endeavors, as well as the many (often unique) musical instruments and accessories displayed in her living room. She loved experimenting with new recipes, especially baking cookies with her grandchildren, where the most important ingredients were her talking to herself, the laughs, and the fun aprons. She took great pride in tending her backyard garden and pool, and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Her adventures took her to places such as Hawaii, Italy, and Dubai, but no destination brought her greater happiness than wherever her family happened to be. Among her family's favorite traditions was her famous New Year’s Eve punch (ginger ale, 7-Up, and sherbet). Becky preferred going barefoot whenever possible, inside or outside, and would inevitably shout out “Ow My Toe!”, as she stubbed her toe throughout the day. Nothing brought Becky more happiness than preparing for visits from her grandchildren. The magic of being young, curious, and joyful was well suited to who she was. It was only natural she was an enthusiastic grandmother: fun, crazy, and full of life. Becky lovingly cared for her husband through countless details of daily life: keeping track of appointments, reminders, labels, and various spreadsheets. She approached caregiving not as an obligation, but as an expression of love. The lessons Becky taught her family will endure long after her passing. She demonstrated hard work, perseverance, and proof a person's past does not have to dictate their future. She also taught us to dream, and be a little (or a lot) eccentric when the inclination presents itself. While her family grieves her loss, they take comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind: playing cards around the kitchen table, the handmade blankets, family vacations, gadget gifting and regifting, and the subtle ways she showed her family she loved them. Becky will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. A visitation of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 5pm until 8pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 10:00am at Immaculate Conception Church, 510 St James Ave, Goose Creek, SC 29445, followed by a private burial at the Ruppe family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Moncks Corner, SC.
