Charles Wendell Huggins

Charles Wendell Huggins, affectionately known as Wendell, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, in Summerville, South Carolina, at the age of 76. He was born on August 27, 1949, in Mullins, South Carolina. Wendell was a devoted father, pepaw, father in-law, brother, and friend. His greatest joy was the love he shared with those closest to him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to help others, and his “one-of-a-kind” ways. His caring nature touched many lives, and his generosity was never limited to those he knew. Wendell (“Huggie”) dedicated many years of service as a welder and locksmith at Joint Base Charleston, where his skills, dependability, and commitment were valued by those who worked alongside him. One of Wendell’s favorite pastimes was fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time at his favorite fishing holes along our local rivers and lakes, where he could relax, enjoy the outdoors, and pursue something he truly loved alongside his family and friends. Wendell was predeceased by his parents, James (“Jack”) Nathan Huggins and Evelyn Agnes Edwards. Also, Joshua N Canaday (nephew), Billy Wayne Huggins (brother), Faye Huggins (sister in-law), Lynn Huggins Callahan (niece), Tommy Doyle (brother in-law) and Phil Doyle (nephew). Wendell is survived by his loving daughter, Tracie Lewis, son in-law Warren Lewis and his two cherished grandchildren, Gage Lewis and Mary Morgan Lewis, sister Carolyn Doyle, brother Glenn Huggins (Karen), sister Jackie Canaday (Rodney), nieces and nephews, Bralyn Kemmerlin, Wendy Lee, Mark Huggins, Kevin Huggins and Terry Doyle, along with many other family members who will carry his memory in their hearts. He is also survived by special friend Grover Duncan and lifelong friends, Ronnie and Chic Foster, Doug Connelly, Kate Kigos and Jerry McDonald. The family extends their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the dedicated staff at Agape Hospice and to the compassionate caregivers of the Memory Care unit at Harmony at Westcott for the care, kindness, and support they provided to Wendell and his family. Wendell leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, hard work, and service to others. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
