David Watts Thomas, 78, of Summerville, formerly of Florence, husband of Gladys “Totsie” Thomas died Friday, April 16, 2010 at his residence. Funeral service will be held Monday, April 19, 2010 at 1 o’clock at Calvary Baptist Church, 915 Cherokee Road, Florence. Burial will follow at Florence Memorial Gardens, 3320 South Cashua Drive, Florence. Friends may visit at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home, 2402 South Irby Street, Florence on Sunday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock. Friends may visit at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville from 6 until 8 o’clock Saturday evening. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Samaritans Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina 28607. David was born January 26, 1932 in Johnsonville, South Carolina, son of the late Charles Brewster Thomas and Annis Viola Watts Thomas. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. The Lord was the center of everything; always putting Him first. He was an avid Braves fan. He retired from Carolina Freight System as a truck driver after 30+ years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Florence and the First Baptist Church of Jedburg. Surviving in addition to his wife are: 3 daughters and 1 son: Marsha Berg (Joe) of Florence, Sharon Haselden of Raleigh, North Carolina, David “Randy” Thomas of Florence and Susan Skinner (Tommy) of Florence, 3 stepchildren: Eva Garriott (William) of Summerville, Gwen Miller (Don) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Bryan Tettleton (Yvonne) of Moncks Corner, 5 grandchildren: Philip “Brent” Andrews of Charlotte, North Carolina, John “Jay” Lawrence Haselden, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina, Matthew “Buddy” Randall Thomas of Florence, Joshua “Josh” Lacey Thomas of Florence and Coy Allen Garriott of Summerville, 4 step grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, sisters: Eleanor Morgan of Pocomoke City, Maryland, Ollie Mae Harrelson of Greenville, SC, a very special sister-in-law: Geraldine Thomas of Boiling Springs, South Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife: Barbara Allen Thomas, daughter: Janet Marie Thomas, brothers: Cecil Thomas, John Thomas and Hillie Joe Thomas and sister: Minnie Lola Thompson and his beloved pets: Barney and Charlie.
