Eleanor Mellichamp Wilson

Eleanor Mellichamp Wilson, 95, of Summerville, entered into eternal rest on Shabbot morning Saturday, January 31, 2015 at home. Family and friends are invited to attend her going home celebration at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Monday evening from 6 to 8 o’clock. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 1 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Connington Avenue, Charleston, SC 29405. Eleanor was born April 7, 1919 in her parents’ home on Sumter Street, downtown Charleston. She was a premature baby, weighing less than three pounds and was always so amazed she had lived so long. She was the daughter of the late Edward Henry Mellichamp, III and Anne Isabella Harleston Mellichamp. Eleanor worked for the Welfare Department also known as The Department of Social Services as secretary to the Head of the Homemakers Division for twenty years. She loved to sew, crochet, scrapbook, make greeting cards and play solitaire on her computer. In these last years she enjoyed being read to and working puzzles with Fran. She was a “True Southern Lady”; a “Genuine Steel Magnolia”. Eleanor was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church now known as The Church of the Good Shepherd. She is survived by her daughter Louise Anne Wilson of Summerville and son Wilbe R. “Tommy” Wilson, III and his wife Dorothy H. Wilson of Summerville; one granddaughter: Bridget Vogel of England, one niece: Margaret Simons Lentz of James Island and one nephew: Edmund Palmer Simons of James Island; twelve great nieces and nephews and eight great great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother and one sister: Edward Henry Mellichamp, IV and Margaret Mellichamp Simons Crosby and one niece: Frances S. Tucker. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 316 W. Carolina Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483.
