Francis "Frank" Shortino

Francis “Frank” Joseph Shortino, 83, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a love for adventure. Frank was born on April 19, 1942, in Scottsville, New York, to the late Joseph Shortino and Rose Shortino. He was the beloved husband of Joan Cappadonia Shortino, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. As a couple, they loved to travel the world including places like Egypt, New Zealand, China, Australia, Africa, Fiji, Israel, Peru, Russia, Europe (including Italy, of course) and all over the North America. Frank loved the outdoors and could often be found working on projects outside or trading firearms at gun shows. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and he loved American history. He had a lifelong passion for cars and racing and greatly enjoyed watching NASCAR. Frank also loved to fly. He had a plane and a pilot’s license for many years and was part of the Civil Air Patrol in NY in the early ‘70s. Frank was a natural entrepreneur. He owned and operated several businesses in his lifetime, including Frank’s Collision in Mount Morris, NY; Elmira Appraisal Service in Elmira NY; Shortino Brothers Construction Company in Horseheads, NY; and Coastal Construction Company in Summerville, SC. Frank didn't like to follow rules or directions from others, but some of his family and friends are very familiar with “Frank’s Rules.", such as when parking always protect one side. Frank will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his adventurous spirit, and the many lives he touched through his work and friendships. Frank was a faithful and heavily involved member of St. John the Beloved Church in Summerville. He left his mark all over the church by using his skills to assist in numerous remodeling projects and serving as an altar server. He is survived by his loving son, David Shortino (Denise); his grandchildren: Stephanie Gage (Charles) and Scott Shortino; his great grandchildren: Jackson Gage and Juliet Gage; his siblings: Angela Shortino-Calandra; as well as numerous nieces and nephews: Debbie, Korinne and Bill. He was preceded in death by his brother, Philip Shortino and his parents. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 1:00 pm at St John the Beloved Catholic Church, Summerville. Inurnment will follow on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 12:00 pm at Mepkin Abbey Columbarium, Moncks Corner. In lieu of flowers, please go out for dinner in memory of Frank (he loved a nice prime rib) or donate to your favorite charity.
