Garnet L. McLean Summerville, SC Garnet L. McLean passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 20, 2016. He has gone ahead to prepare a home in heaven for his loving family as he did all his life time here on earth. He was born on August 11, 1929 to Helen Seeley McLean and Hector L. McLean in Bishop Mills, Ontario Canada. Graduated high school in Oswego, NY and attended RIT in Rochester, NY. Always full of energy and laughter but eager to succeed in life, he worked hard beginning with delivering the Pall Times newspaper on his bicycle, working hot summers on the onion muck farms, McPhails Chocolate Factory, a fireman on the coal freighter, The Fontana, that sailed on the great lakes, carrying coal from Sodus, NY to the pier station in Oswego, NY. He served his country in the naval militia. In the 50’s he started work at the Western Union Telegraph Company in Syracuse, NY climbing poles to install and maintain the above ground equipment. He soon became manager of the Rochester, NY office. When modernization took over that aspect of the company he became part of the Xerox Tech System and went on to head a technical team in Mahwah, NJ. He married his childhood sweetheart Jane France on November 23, 1950, during the great Atlantic storm that occurred that same day. He built a house with his own hands for his family on East River Road. During his career moves they lived in Ontario, NY, Rochester, NY, Spring Valley, NY, Brooksville, FL, Brunswick, GA, Vestavia Hills, AL and Summerville, SC. A kind, quiet, and gentle man he loved his family, his dogs, politics, football, just puttering around and gardening. He was an expert in fixing any item that wasn’t running or redoing something already running to make it more useable. He had a passion for reading, especially history and could recall immediately memorable events and little known facts that occurred almost like he had been there himself in another lifetime. He leaves us reluctantly to better watch over his family, his wife and best friend, Jane, son Daniel and his wife Patricia of Naperville, IL, two daughters, Marlene Dunn and her husband Richard of Summerville, SC and Michelle Caldero and her husband Luis of Glassboro, NJ, grandchildren, Heather Glick and husband Tim of Charleston, SC, Rick Dunn of Charleston, SC, Sarah Fung and husband Paul of Iowa Park, TX, Matthew Rogers of Vista, CA, great grandsons, Joseph and Andrew Glick of Charleston, SC and Casey Fung of Iowa Park, TX, sister, Mary Smith of Knoxville, TN and sister in law and her husband Dorothy and Donald Keifer of Stuart, FL. If you could see me now, standing straight and tall, the pain is gone, I am whole again, healed from earthly woes. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteous which the Lord, will award me.” II Timothy. Thanks to Marlena and the staff at Agape Hospice who helped make his passing a little easier.
