George "Don" O'Donnell Boone, Jr.

On October 22nd, 2013, George O’Donnell Boone, Jr. went home to be with the Lord. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 10 o’clock AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Summerville, 316 W. Carolina Avenue, Summerville. Burial will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 12 o’clock PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Summerville, 316 W. Carolina Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483, Hollings Cancer Center, 86 Jonathan Lucas Street, Charleston, SC 29425 or Hospice of Charleston, 4975 Lacross Road, North Charleston, SC 29406. Don was born on October 31st, 1941 to George O’Donnell Boone and Jacqueline Karr. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Jill Boone Watts. He is survived by his wife, Wynne Simmons Boone of Summerville, SC and his former wife, Julie Holmes Boone of Cockeysville, MD. In addition, he is survived by his daughter, Laura Boone Hess, son-in-law Keith Hess, children Jake and Megan, son Christopher Boone and wife Diane Boone and son CJ, son Bo Miller and his wife Alex and children Meredith, Sarah and Abby, step-son Stephen Dietz and wife Nathalie and children, Giselle, William and Clara, and step-son Stuart Dietz and wife Janine Dietz and children Emma and Simon. In addition, he is survived by his step-sisters, Margaret Young Chambliss and Kathryn Johnson. Don was raised and lived most of his life in Baltimore, MD. In his early years, Don served in the Air Force. Don enjoyed several hobbies including flying small airplanes, boating, fishing and duck hunting. Don owned a home inspection business and retired in 2009 when he and his wife moved to Summerville, SC. Don was a man of great character who loved the Lord and served him faithfully for many years. He enjoyed Christian clowning-a way of telling God’s story. Don knew no strangers evidenced by his many friends. He always had time and a kind word for anyone he met. He loved his family and enjoyed times when everyone could be together. Don leaves a legacy of love, joy and compassion to us all. His departure will leave a hole in our lives but Don is now free, whole and living in a better place. A memorial service will be held at Hilltop Assembly of God in Westminster MD.
