Helene Finotti Horne

Helene Finotti Horne, 74, of Givhans, SC passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. She was born on February 3rd, 1951, in Washington DC and was a daughter of the late Joseph Vincent Finotti and Catherine Ficklin Finotti. Helene attended St. Patrick Catholic High School in Washington DC. She then went on to work at the White House before marrying the love of her life, David Horne, whom she affectionately referred to as her rock. They were married for 54 years. During that time, she worked as an office administrator for the South Carolina Historical Society, the Trident Hospital Cancer Center, and State Farm Insurance. She also worked in various Antique Shops in Summerville and volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity. Helene had a smile that could instantly brighten your day and a personality to match. She was a natural conversationalist, and no one could tell a better story, and in such detail, as many of her friends and family can attest to. Laughs could always be heard when she was nearby. She had a gift for decorating and loved to fill her home with her antique collections, and her gardens with plants and flowers that she took great pleasure in watching grow. Helene also crocheted many beautiful Afghans, many of which were given to those she loved. No doubt, many of the people reading this were also recipients of her wonderful handwritten notes on vintage stationery. She would get so delighted when she heard geese beating their wings overhead, or when the William Tell Overture played and she would pretend she was conducting the orchestra, or when the man in the bi-plane flying over the field would tip his wings just for her because she would run outside and wave at him. She loved to stay busy and always said she couldn’t die anytime soon because she had too many projects to finish. Mom, it’s okay, your touches are everywhere and all the people that loved you will never forget you, most especially me, Dad, and Jon. Helene is survived by her husband David Lionel Horne of Givhans; daughter Caroline Ott and son-in-law Keith Ott of Ridgeville; son Jonathan Horne of Charleston; granddaughter Olive Horne McCoy of Charleston, sister Catherine Hall of Mechanicsville, VA; brother Joseph Finotti of Bremerton, WA; many beloved nieces and nephews, and her sweet, spoiled Australian Cattle Dog Rudy. The family extends their sincere gratitude to Crescent Hospice of Charleston for the compassion and kindness extended to the entire family. The nurses, Pam and Harriet, were truly remarkable. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 from 4pm to 6pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Burial will be private and a Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date to allow those who are traveling from out of state to attend.
