Kathleen "Kathy" Walsh - Bowers

Kathleen (“Kathy”) Walsh Bowers passed away peacefully with her loving husband and children by her side in the early morning of July 26, 2026, after her year-long battle with cancer. Born in 1956 in Schenectady, New York, Kathy was the beloved daughter of Edward and Katherine Walsh. Kathy dedicated 33 remarkable years to the field of education. After graduating from the College of Charleston, she began her teaching career at Bishop England High School at the age of 21. She went on to teach middle school, high school, and college, spending most of her career teaching at Alston Middle School and Summerville High School. She also served as a math coach and interventionist for Dorchester School District Two, mentoring fellow educators and helping countless students reach their full potential. Kathy was a devoted teacher, who loved her students and consistently went above and beyond to encourage, inspire, and challenge them to be their very best and to continue to grow. Her passion for education left a lasting impact on generations of students and teaching colleagues. Kathy was a longstanding member of Alpha Delta Kappa and an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. She faithfully served her parish as a lector, proclaiming the Word of God at Mass. A devoted member of St. John the Beloved, Kathy’s deep Catholic faith was evident to everyone who knew her. She lived her faith through kindness, humility, generosity, and a life dedicated to serving others. Kathy is survived by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 46 years, John Nelson Bowers, of Summerville; her children, Joey (Kristin) Bowers of Alexandria, VA, and Laura (Joseph) Pace of Summerville; her cherished grandchildren, John Henry Bowers, Ann Elizabeth Pace, and Audrey Clara Pace; her siblings, Nancy (Bill) New of North Charleston, Mary (Jim) McAliley of Summerville, Edward (Rose) Walsh of Ladson, her sister-in-law, Shirley Bowers of Summerville, and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews. Above all else, Kathy’s greatest joy was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She poured her heart into her family, always placing their needs before her own. Kathy lived a life of compassion, generosity, and selfless service, touching the lives of everyone she met. She was a true example of a life well lived, with a servant’s heart that reflected the love of Christ in both word and deed. Her kindness, unwavering faith, and enduring love will be remembered always by those who were blessed to know her. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. It will be followed by a funeral Mass held in her honor beginning at 11 a.m. also held at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be immediately followed by a reception at Summerville Country Club. Burial will be private.
