Peter James Straub

Peter James Straub, 70, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication and quiet strength. Born on September 28, 1955, in Syracuse, New York, Peter - affectionately known as “Big Pete”- brought joy with his sense of humor, delighted in finding a good bargain, and remained deeply devoted to his family and Catholic faith. He never met a stranger and took every opportunity to share his love for all things Syracuse. He found simple joy in walking his adored dachshund mix, Lexi, often pausing along the way to visit with neighbors and friends. Pete graduated from Bishop Grimes High School in Syracuse and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management from Syracuse University. After graduation, he and his wife moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where they began their family and Pete’s successful career in logistics. From 1982 to 1992, he worked at Roadway Express. He then served as a Senior Logistics Analyst at TRW from 1992 to 1998, during which time he earned his MBA from the University of Phoenix. In 1998, his career brought the family to Greenville, South Carolina, where Pete served as Manager of International Transportation at Michelin North America until 2014. He later concluded his distinguished career as Executive Director of the SC Applied Research Center for Supply Chain and Logistics and as an Executive in Residence at the College of Charleston. He retired in 2018 and made his home in Summerville, South Carolina. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Pauline; his children, Michael Straub (Stephanie) and Anna Balderson (David); his cherished grandchildren, Harper, Davis, and Bohdan “Bo” Straub, and Audrey Balderson; his brothers, Luke Straub (Sharon) and Matthew Straub; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Straub; his brother-in-law, John Wake; his uncle, Tommy Straub; and several beloved cousins, nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Kitt Straub; his brother, George Straub; his sisters, Eleanor Shuman (Tom) and Antoinette “Sis” Wake; and nephew: Andrew “Andy” Straub. Peter will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. His legacy of faith, love, and laughter will live on in all who knew him. The funeral will be held at St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church in Summerville, South Carolina, on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 11:00am.
