Richard S. Erb

Richard Sanford Erb, 73, of Ladson, SC, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Veterans Victory House, Walterboro. He was surrounded by his loving family. There will be a memorial service with Military Honors on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 3 p.m. at James Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main St., Summerville, 29483. Mr. Erb was born March 4, 1943 in Port Washington NY, son of the late Harry E. Erb and Lucy Jack Erb. He was a 20 yr veteran of the US Navy and was a submariner that helped win the Cold War. He did numerous cruises in war zones in the Pacific during Vietnam and had a career that was something out of a Tom Clancy novel. It was very important to him to lead his life with service above self and was a hero to his children. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan Scarangello Erb of Ladson, his two children, Barbara Erb Wright of Summerville and David Erb (Natalie) of Norris TN, grandchildren, Michael Richard Hart of Summerville and Fiona Marie Erb of Norris TN, sister Luanne DiCapua of Coral Springs FL, Sister-in-law Marianne C. Rough of Ladson, Brother-in-law John (Wendy) Scarangello of Sunnyvale CA, a nephew William Johnson (Julie) and nieces Lisa Barenboim, Lori Gorgone, Lucie Scott, Christin Kopicky and Michelle Musgnug. He was predeceased by his parents, his mother-in-law Ann Scarangello and his granddaughter Amelia Ann Erb.
