Robert Edward " Bob " Barrows

Robert Edward " Bob " Barrows, 87, of Summerville, South Carolina, beloved husband of Marilyn Louise (Nelson) Barrows, "his Bride" for 70 wonderful years, passed from this life into eternity on Monday, September 11, 2023 at his home in the presence of his family. Bob was born on Friday, March 20, 1936 in Milford, Massachusetts, a son of Stanley Emory and Sadie Louise (Wrenn) Barrows, Bob grew up in Hopedale, Massachusetts and was educated in the Hopedale School System, graduating in 1954. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn on June 14, 1953. Bob proudly served his country honorably in the United States Army in the 16th U.S. Army Infantry before receiving his associates degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester College in Worcester, Massachusetts. Bob worked for the Draper Corporation where he graduated from the Draper's apprentice program in wood pattern making and mechanical drafting. Bob later worked at Dennison in Framingham, MA, RCA in Marlboro, MA, Data General in Westboro, MA, and then TRW in Lebanon, TN. Upon his retirement from TRW, and he and Marilyn moved to Summerville, South Carolina and have been members of the Bethany United Methodist Church. Bob was very active in his hometown community serving on the Hopedale CalI Fire Department as a member of Engine Company 2, and as a town selectman from 1978 to 1990, seven of his twelve years he was the board's chairman. He was a manager in the Hopedale Junior Baseball Association and volunteered as the association president in 1970. He was an active member of Union Evangelical Church in Hopedale serving on several committees over the course of many years. Both he and his wife Marilyn were very active in the local and council programs of the Boy Scouts. Bob received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award for volunteer leadership. Bob's hobbies included woodcrafting and vegetable gardening. His favorite sports are all Boston teams, Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings brother, Stanley L. " Buster " Barrows, and sister, Edith Rehbein; his son, Lt. Gary N. Barrows, and his great grandson Everett Alexander Byrnes. Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn N. Barrows of Summerville, SC; his sons, Robert Barrows, Jr (Susan Anderson) of Bath, ME, and James A. Barrows (Mary Peterson) of Leominster, MA; Daughter in Law Terry Barrows; and his daughter, Jennifer L. Barrows O'Donnal (Max O'Donnal); his sister, Dorothy Kirby (David); 8 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
