Ruth Marie Taylor Lee

Ruth Marie Taylor Lee, lovingly known as “Marie” to friends and “Bama” to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, at the age of 86 in Summerville, SC. Born in 1939 in Greensboro, NC, Marie lived a life rooted in love, faith, creativity, and devotion to family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Gladys Taylor, and her brother, Lewis Taylor. Marie is survived by her children, Sonia Lee of Charlotte, NC; Ramona Lee Jasso (Snapper) of Summerville, SC; and Taylor Lee of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Connor Jasso (Adry) of Columbia, SC; Chase Jasso (Meredith) of Charleston, SC; Hayden Jasso (Laney Jenkins) of Greenville, SC; and Hollyn Lee and Anne-Hampton Lee of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She is also lovingly remembered by her nephews, Steve Taylor (Shirley) of Georgetown, TX, and Ron Taylor (Jane) of York, SC, and her sweet cat, Smokey. Marie dedicated her career to shaping young minds as a fourth-grade teacher, where she shared her deep love of science and inspired curiosity in countless students. Beyond the classroom, she was a woman of many talents—an accomplished cook, seamstress, gardener, and painter. She found joy in traveling, crafting, and spending time going on adventures, making memories with her grandchildren, especially during their younger years. Marie loved being around people and cherished time gathered over good food and a glass (or more) of wine with friends. She was funny, a natural storyteller, and delighted in sharing tales of her colorful escapades—always bringing laughter to those around her. A lifelong Presbyterian, Marie’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She sang in the church choir, served as an Elder, directed Vacation Bible School, taught Sunday School, and lovingly cared for the youngest members in the nursery. Her quiet service and steady presence left a lasting impact on her church community. Marie will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, sense of humor, and the deep love she shared so freely with her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives she nurtured, the traditions she created, and the countless moments of joy she brought to those around her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Summerville Presbyterian Church, 407 South Laurel Street, Summerville, SC.
