Vivian D. Mizell

Vivian D. Mizell, 87, of Summerville, widow of Edward W. Mizell, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at The Village at Summerville. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Oakbrook Chapel, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville from 12 to 1 o’clock followed by the funeral service at 1 o’clock. Entombment will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association - SC Chapter, Lowcountry Region, 2090 Executive Hall Road, #130, Charleston, SC 29407 or Hospice of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Mrs. Mizell was born February 14, 1928 in Berkeley County, SC daughter of the late William Dangerfield and Delia Droze Dangerfield. She graduated from Berkeley High School. Vivian had a deep love for her family. She had a strong vision of spreading God’s word in the community in which she lived. She was instrumental in establishing Gethsemane Baptist Church and was a Charter member. She loved teaching Sunday school and taught the women’s class until Alzheimer’s robbed her of the ability to teach. She loved nature, especially birds. She enjoyed oil painting, the mountains and music. Vivian was always ready to share a song and subsequently named “The Signing Lady” by the staff at the Village. She went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family singing the hymns she cherished. Survivors include two sons and three daughters: Edward A. Mizell of Summerville, Richard M. Mizell (Theresa) of Summerville, Janice Maurice (Wesley) of Summerville, Kathy Hill (Glenn) of Ridgeville and Sherri Mizell of Columbia, sixteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; two sisters: Essie Huff of Summerville and Emmaline Hill of Travelers Rest. She was predeceased by one son: Glenn O. Mizell and grandson: Justin W. Maurice. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Healthcare Ward staff and Hospice of Charleston staff at The Village at Summerville.
