Beatrice Lillian Henise

Beatrice Henise, 92, of Summerville, passed away on July 27, 2023, surrounded by her family at The Village of Summerville. Beatrice was born September 30, 1930, in Summerville, daughter of Christopher and Althare Windham. She met the love of her life, Karl E. Henise, while he was stationed in Charleston with the U.S. Navy. They were married on July 7, 1953, and had two beautiful daughters. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing with her grandchildren, listening to Southern Gospel music, winning at poker machines and playing computer games. She loved her neighborhood and would spend hours sitting on the front porch waving to her neighbors. Her favorite pastime though was telling funny stories and making people laugh. Beatrice worked as a cafeteria worker in the Berkeley County School District for over 20 years before retirement. After retirement she volunteered for various organizations. Survivors include: her daughters Theresa Lynn Miles (Alan) of Goose Creek and Leslie Henise Kelly (Keith) of Johns Island; six grandchildren- Karlee Schattle, Logan Kelly, Dillon Kelly (Katelin), Buster Miles, Justin Miles (Alissa), and Susan Mejias (Michael); and eight great grandchildren- Brayden, Kole, and Kort Stollar, Jack and Ben Miles, and Karina, Sophia, and Azalea Mejias. Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband Karl E. Henise, her parents Christopher and Althare Windham, and four brothers and six sisters. Thank you to all of the wonderful staff at The Village of Summerville and MUSC at Home Hospice by Bayada. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 6:00pm– 8:00pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville. A Memorial Service will be held in The Village of Summerville Chapel at 10:00am on August 4, 2023. The Burial will follow at 1:00pm at Dorchester Memory Gardens. Florals will be accepted, or memorials may be made to The Village of Summerville Appreciation Fund. Checks should be made out to PCSC Foundations - 2817 Ashland Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
