Betty Jean Hennessy

February 24, 1932 - January 14, 2021

After a very courageous and full life, Betty Jean Hennessy, 88, resident of Summerville, SC, went to be with her Savior on Thursday, January 14, 2021. Betty was born on February 24, 1932 in Stirrat, West Virginia, daughter of Carl and Wilma Branscome. She graduated from South Charleston High School in Charleston WV. She also studied at Charleston General Hospital School of Nursing, Morris Harvey, and West Virginia State College. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Her love of life was her family and living life with her two grandchildren. She was a member of Oakbrook Community Church in Summerville, SC, where she enjoyed the ladies weekly Bible study. She looked forward to playing bridge at the Faith Sellers Senior Center. She was an avid sewer. She is survived by her daughter, Sondra Hennessy Miller of Summerville; two grandchildren: Ryan Miller of Montgomery, AL and Laurel Miller of Birmingham, AL; two sisters: Lorraine Petersen of Branson, MO and Sue Gross (Bruce) of Heathsville, VA; sister-in-law, Sondra Swenson (Bruce) of Silver Spring, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Robert F. Hennessy, and her parents, she was preceded in death by five of her siblings: Bobby Branscome, Dreama Preston, Ruth Mandt, Kay Cummings, and Carl Branscome; and her sister-in-law, Marna Hennessy. Family and friends are invited to attend the celebration of her life on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville. Visiting hours will begin at 1:00 pm and the service at 2:00 pm. Facial coverings and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakbrook Community Church, 705 H Old Trolly Rd., Summerville, SC 29485.
