Gail R. Sweatt Staples

October 24, 1952 - January 20, 2022

Gail R. (Sweatt) Staples, 69, wife of Donald Staples, of Ridgeville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Gail was born in Norwalk, CT on October 24, 1952 to Vernon C. and Ruth A. Sweatt. In 1959, the family moved to Danbury, CT where Gail graduated from Danbury High School, Class of 1970. Gail met Donny Staples in 1969 at the Danbury Fair. She didn’t much care for him at first but he was persistent and they married at an in home ceremony in Danbury on Halloween night in 1970. In 2020 they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Together, they had two children, Jennifer and Christopher and eventually moved to Southbury CT. Gail was an insurance professional in Hartford, Newtown and Danbury during her business career. While living in Southbury, Gail became an EMT. Gail loved this job and being able to help people. She was our go to person with any medical questions if they arose. In 2002, Gail and her family moved to SC. Once again she found her way back into the insurance industry. Gail retired in 2014 and lived a quiet country life in Ridgeville, SC. Gail and Don had many friends in SC. Dinners, lunches and trips were enjoyed by all. Besides her husband and children, Jennifer and Christopher, Gail leaves behind her two grandsons, Alex and Max. Jennifer’s husband, Chris Fischer, two sisters, Donna Lillis (David) of New Milford, CT, Stacey Houle of SC and numerous nieces and nephews as well as her dogs and cat. Additionally, she leaves her very best friend, Anne Gould. Anne will miss their travel adventures (there were many). Gail could be as funny as she could be sarcastic (a family trait). Being the middle child, Gail was the peacemaker of the family. We will miss that and now we will need to solve our own battles. Rest easy Gail. Know you were loved and how much we will miss you. Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 6 o’clock to 8 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 11 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 2:30 at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort, SC 29902. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jamesadyal.com. ARRANGEMENTS BY JAMES A. DYAL FUNERAL HOME, 303 SOUTH MAIN STREET, SUMMERVILLE, SC 29483 (843)873-4040.
