Kay Williamson

Kay Ellen Williamson, 84, passed away peacefully in her home on February 26,2024. She will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and a friend to many. Her kindness, patience, absolute love for her family and reverence of God were evident to all who knew her. Born in Savannah, Georgia on June 23,1939 she was the daughter of the late Bill Henry Garrett and Lettie Helen Garrett. She was the oldest of three children and was preceded in death by her siblings: James Donald Garrett and John Dell Garrett. Kay was born of a humble beginning and was a wonderful mother to her children. As the children grew older, she entered into the work force as a shoe salesperson at Sears, Roebuck and Company in Augusta, Georgia. Upon moving to Columbia, South Carolina in 1970, she began a new career as a beauty consultant for Revlon in military commissaries throughout the Southeast where she excelled in sales and assisting young women with their cosmetic needs. Her work excellence led to the opportunity to join military broker, V.H. Monette and Co. as a sales distribution leader to military commissaries in the eastern region. As Kay’s business acumen grew, she made a final career change in 1985 when she was appointed as an agency owner with Allstate Insurance Company in Summerville, SC. Starting with a “scratch” agency she grew it into a multimillion-dollar agency earning many company awards as a top sales agent until she retired in 2005. Kay loved boating and owned several with sleeping accommodations that allowed her to spend many nights and weekends in Charleston Harbor enjoying the company of family and friends. She loved to travel and made many trips overseas to exotic locations but always looked forward to the mountains of Western North Carolina every year to enjoy the fall colors. She also enjoyed shopping and had credit cards from every major retailer within a three-county radius. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Keith Eugene Dumph. Survivors include her sons; Alan Blair Williamson (Barbara), David Garrett Williamson, Mark Stephen Williamson (Yvette) and stepdaughter Sue Ella Ewald. Grandchildren; Peni Jean Williamson, Adam Williamson (Sandra), Ben Williamson (Heather), David Williamson (Katrina), Christina Williamson (Brock), Garrett Williamson (Ashley) and step-grandson Dustin Ewald (Layla) and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her little Yorkie, Maggie who laid faithfully by her side twenty-four hours a day during her extended illness. A memorial service will be held at James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville, SC on March 30, 2024 at 1 o’clock. Memorial contributions may be made to Roper St Francis Hospice Foundation, 100 Calhoun St Suite 210 Charleston Sc 29401.
