Terrell D. Smith

February 14, 1936 - May 1, 2022

Terrell Dwight Smith, Sr, of Summerville, SC passed away peacefully on May 1, 2022 in Lexington, SC, surrounded by his loved ones, after a hard-fought battle with dementia. Dwight was born February 14, 1936 in Philadelphia, MS, son of the late Hugh Terrell and Adis Avelle McCowen Smith. He graduated from Pascagoula High School in Mississippi and received a double degree in Business and Accounting from The University of Southern Mississippi, where he was an ROTC member. He was married to the love of his life, Georgie, for 47 years. He is a veteran of the US Army, where he was a 1st Lt and an expert marksman. He served time at Fort Ard, CA following college. He worked in retail management with Sears Roebuck and Co. for over 30 years, followed by many years of rental property management. He is also a lifetime member of the Masons. Survivors include: Terrell Dwight Smith, Jr. (Shari) of Beaufort, SC and Shannon Smith Payne (Chip) of Lexington, SC; five grandchildren: Bryce, Brooke Caroline, Catie and Tripp; three siblings: Myrrah Smith (Paul) of Vancleave, MS, Jeanette Davenport of Vancleave, MS and Linda Gatlin (Mike) of TX. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. In addition to his late wife Georgie Anna Cutter Smith and his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by his brother, Timothy Guy. The family will hold a private service in Summerville at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in Mr. Smith’s memory to: Presbyterian Home of SC, 700 Devega Dr, W. Columbia SC, 29073 - ATTN: Employee Appreciation Fund.
