Barbara Carroll Chaplin

Barbara Carroll Chaplin, 79, passed away peacefully at her home on Yonges Island on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Born on February 1, 1947, to Jess Willard Carroll and Lula Pellum Carroll, Barbara was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School. On June 30, 1968, she married the love of her life, Robert Preston Chaplin III, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned 58 years. Barbara enjoyed a successful career as an accountant and insurance agent, eventually fulfilling her dream of owning her own business. She took great pride not only in her work, but in the relationships she built with the people she served. Barbara never met a stranger. She had a generous heart and was always willing to give her time, offer advice, or simply listen when someone needed her. Many people who were not her own children lovingly called her “Mom,” a reflection of the love and comfort she provided to so many. Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them and took great pride in watching them grow. Barbara also had a passion for flower gardening, happiest with dirt on her hands as she planted beauty wherever she could. She was a lifelong lover of animals and had a special place in her heart for them. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Anna Anthony, whose loving care, compassion, and devotion meant so much to Barbara and her family. Anna became more than a caregiver; she became a treasured part of the family, providing comfort, companionship, and kindness throughout the years. Her love and dedication will always be remembered. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert Preston Chaplin III; her daughter, Sheila Chaplin (fiancé John D. Donehue Jr.); her son, Robert Preston Chaplin IV (wife Donna Chaplin); her grandchildren, Reese Riley Chaplin and Avery Renee Chaplin; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Jess Willard and Lula Pellum Carroll, and her brother, Mike. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 2, at 1:00 p.m. at James A. Dyal Funeral Home in Summerville. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be at Ravenel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 6035 Drayton Street, Ravenel.
