Carmela Briggs

Carmela Annunziato Briggs, 87, of Ladson, widow of Edward Briggs, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at The Bridges Assisted Living. Friends and family may call at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 11001 Dorchester Road, Summerville, on Monday, June 6, 2016 from 6 o’clock until 8 o’clock PM. A prayer service will begin at 7:15 PM. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 11 o’clock AM at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Carmela was born on October 30, 1928 to Gennerro and Rosa Annuniziato in Brooklyn, NY. She was the beloved wife of Edward Briggs for over 60 years until his death in 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Maria and Angelina; brothers, John and Salvatore; and an infant son David. She is survived by her adoring children Wayne (Vicki) Briggs, Jerry Briggs, Jane (Dan) Folk, Sharon (Greg) Holland, and Diana Kokinda. She is also survived by ten grandchildren Sean, Kendra (Craig), William (Amber), Justin, Thomas (Laura), Zachary (Shana), Jedidiah, Joshua, Ella, and Abigail. She was further blessed with eight great-children Kate, Nathan, Kaylee, Scarlett, Gavin, Madison, Hooper and Charlotte Jade. She was known as Millie to all who knew and loved her. Millie’s love of her faith brought her many joy filled opportunities to serve. For many years she helped run the St. John the Beloved Catholic Church Library, an active member of their Women’s Club, and a Holy Minister of the Eucharist. Later, she became an active member and parishioner at St. Theresa of the Little Flower Catholic Church, once again, faithfully volunteering at the annual Oktoberfest, as well as, in many other ways. If you needed someone to pray for you, Millie was the ultimate prayer warrior! She was an active member of H2U and she and Ed loved to travel with the group. Millie was a truly talented seamstress, working as a young woman to help design and make wedding dresses. Millie could whip out a new outfit before you had time to say thank you. Millie had many talents but her greatest talent was being a wife and mother. Her greatest joy was her family, traveling from state to state and country to country just to make sure they were all doing well. She was at the birth of all of her grandchildren, giving first baths and kisses. Whatever her children needed, she was always there to give her support and love. Mom, you were the fabric of our lives, until we meet again. The family would like to thank The Bridge of Charleston and AGAPE Hospice Care for their love and care of our mother in her final days.
