Henry J. Clark

Henry J. Clark, 86, of Ladson, husband of Sandra (Guerzon) Clark, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 at Trident Medical Center. A memorial mass will be held at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 28 Sumter Street in Summerville on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 11 o’clock AM. Inurnment will be held at Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner. Henry was born on September 14, 1930 in Charleston, SC son of the late Sidney W. Clark and Anniebell (Varner) Clark. He grew up in Moncks Corner and has been a resident of Ladson for 48 years. He was a retired building contractor of custom houses from Summerville to Mt. Pleasant. He employed, trained and mentored hundreds of people. Henry was a self-educated, highly motivated over-achiever who could find the answers when so-called experts could not. He was the first Native American to register with the state as a business owner. He was the former chief and member of the Wassamasaw Tribe. He was a 3rd and 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Eucharistic minister at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. Henry was an avid bowler and was a member of the Charleston Bowling Association. He also loved watching baseball and football and enjoyed gardening. He was an excellent storyteller who had a saying for any situation. He loved to cook and serve others and lend a helpful hand whenever needed. He loved his faith, loved God and lived his life according to his Christian values. He never met a stranger. Surviving in addition to his wife Sandra of 54 years are: three children: Suzanne L. Clark, Michael D. Clark and Christopher Clark (Gary Raymond); siblings: Alberta Varner, Arthur Clark (Stella), Floyd Clark, Julia Bell, Kent Clark (Amy) and Jerry Clark (Kathleen). He was predeceased by his siblings, Eddie Clark, Ervin Clark, Sidney Clark and Matthew Clark.
