Julie Lee Sweat Young

Julie Lee Sweat Young, lovingly known as Judy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 79 years old. Born on November 10, 1946, in Beaufort, South Carolina, Judy was the daughter of the late Elbert L. Sweat and Rubye G. Sweat. Judy graduated from Beaufort High School and the Roper School of Nursing. She began her nursing career at Roper Hospital and later worked at South Carolina Baptist Hospital. She retired after 31 years as an office nurse for Dr. William Morris in Summerville, where she was known for her compassionate care and dedication to her patients. A faithful member of Summerville Baptist Church, Judy was active in the Talley Sunday School Class, enjoyed taking care of preschoolers during Sunday services, and served on numerous church committees throughout the years. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she found great joy in serving her church family. Judy shared nearly 58 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Samuel Eric Young. Together they built a loving family that was the center of her life. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Eric Young; her daughter, Wendy Reed (Trey) of Lexington SC; her son, Eric Young (Angie) of Ridgeville, SC; her grandchildren, Janie Meyko (Philip), Lila Reed, Brittany Bohannon, and Connor Bohannon; and her great-grandson, Bentley Gaskins; her brother, George Sweat (Vicky) of Beaufort, SC; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of her second great-grandchild, Elliott Meyko, expected in August. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Porterfield, infant twin sisters and her parents-in-law, Heyward and Janie Young. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Summerville Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. The family will attend a graveside service at the Brunson Cemetery in Brunson, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Judy's memory to the children's ministry at Summerville Baptist Church. The family extends its gratitude to all who have offered love, prayers, and support during this time.
