Kathleen Welles Fender

Kathleen Welles Fender (Kate), 82, of Summerville, widow of Arthur D. Fender Sr., passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Villages of Summerville. Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation and service on Wednesday December 23, 2020 at Boone Hill UMC, 801 Boone Hill Road, Summerville SC 29483. Services will begin at 1 o’clock. Burial will be private at Dorchester Memory Gardens. The church requires face coverings and for everyone to practice social distancing. Kathleen was born February 19, 1938 in Miami, Florida, the daughter of the late Gurdon H. and AnnaBelle L. Welles. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Arthur D. Fender Sr., son, Arthur Duane Fender Jr, son –in –law Jack LeaMond and her sister Donna Boden. She was a retired clerk of 25 years with Southern Bell/AT&T. She was a member of Boone Hill United Methodist Church, a homemaker, sister, mother, and Nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 15+ years and with the Low Country Special Olympics for several years. Kathleen was an active member of Boone Hill UMC for over 40 years where she enjoyed attending church services, serving on numerous committees, and was an active member of the UMW group. She was named Boone Hill UMC’s Mother of the Year in 2005. She enjoyed cross-country trips with her husband, Art, and their camping group, the Sunny Travelers. She loved attending sporting events and spending time with family, especially her grand-children and great grand-children. She is survived by her brother Buck Welles (Dee) of Florida, two daughters, Kathy F. Charpia (Royce) of Summerville, SC, and Lois LeaMond of Manning, SC and her daughter in law Lynn Fender of Fork Union Va. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren Royce ‘Bo’ Charpia Jr. (Lauren), Elizabeth Charpia (Jeremiah), Lauren Reed (Danny), Lindsay Owanesian (Chris), Alan Pease, Caroline LeaMond (Ryan), Katie LeaMond, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
