Steven Scott Melcher

Steven (Steve) Melcher was born September 9th, 1963, in Milwaukee, WI. He passed away unexpectedly on July 7, 2026. He was the beloved son of the late Carol Buckett and survived by his loving father Harold (Buz) Buckett. Steve graduated from East Troy Community High School in 1981. On January 25th, 1982, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a Gunner’s Mate where he worked on the USS Blakely FF1072 and the USS Semmes DDG-18. He received Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, U.S. Coast Guard Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal amongst numerous Letters of Appreciation during his tenure in the United States Navy. He was transferred to the Naval Reserves on January 3rd, 1986, where he finished his Naval career before transitioning into the United States Army Reserves. On October 27th, 1987, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves serving as a Multichannel Communications Equipment Operator at the 116th Signal Company located in North Charleston, South Carolina. He received the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Governor's Unit Citation, Palmetto Service Ribbon, M16A1 (Expert) Qualification Badge during his time in the Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged from his military service on May 20th, 1994. Following his military career, Steve worked primarily as a roofer with Keating Roofing and Sheet Metal where he was a supervisor. He has worked on many buildings throughout the state where some are still standing to this very day. He was always a hard-working dedicated man who wouldn’t quit until the job was complete, even traveling away from home for a period of time. Steve married his only wife Wanda Melcher on April 12th, 1985. They were married for 25 years until they mutually decided to divorce but still held love in their hearts for one another. During their marriage, they had two children Steven Melcher Jr. born on September 30th, 1986, in Waukesha, WI and Heather Melcher (Pulcini) born on August 10th, 1989, in Charleston, SC. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who took great pride in being outdoors on his days off work. After a long day at work, you could usually find him sitting in front of the television with his TV tray or napping in the recliner. He loved his children very much and provided them with all the love and care they needed. He would spend many weekends surfing the waves with his daughter Heather at Folly Beach, SC. Steve loved cooking on the grill any chance he could get and made the best deep-fried turkeys for Thanksgiving feasts. In December 2007, he accompanied his daughter Heather to Fort Jackson, SC to watch her follow in his footsteps in pursuing a military career in the United States Air Force. When his son Steven was diagnosed with a recurrent bone tumor and had to make multiple trips to medical facilities in the upstate and North Carolina for treatments, he was the one who would be there to support Steven and travel with him trying to put a smile on his face while dealing with the scary situation. Anyone that came to meet Steve knew he was stubborn and had a sarcastic sense of humor at times but loved him anyways. He has touched many people and left an imprint in their lives and will never be forgotten. He is survived by his children: Steven Melcher Jr. and Heather Pulcini (Anthony); two beloved grandchildren: Nikolai Payton and Natalya Payton; his brothers in Wisconsin: Todd Melcher (Robin), Michael Melcher, and Charles Buckett (Kathleen); his sister in Wisconsin: Stacy Redel (Chris); as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews and extended family. A visitation of family and friends will be held on Tuesday July 21st, 2026, from 5pm until 6pm with a memorial service held immediately after from 6pm until 7pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483.
